Creating my front cover, double page spread and contents page
I am currently in the process of creating my front cover, contents page and double page spread. I am creating these pages on photoshop and using all original images taken by myself.
Below I have attached a sample of the images I took for my front cover, contents page and double page spread.
I ask my model to wear a variety of clothes, I did this so that it looks as if my pictures have come from a range of photoshoots rather than just one which makes it look more professional.
At the beginning of me creating my front cover I was going to use one of the images of my model holding the guitar, however I then realised that this would not make it very clear what my genre is due to the fact that an acoustic guitar is typically associated with country music.
Below I have attached images of what my front cover, contents page and double page spread looked like before I received any feedback.
For my first version of my front cover, I attempted to include as many magazine conventions as possible so that it would attract my target audience. I then received feedback on my front cover and I modified it in order to try and make it follow the majority of the conventions for a music magazine and make it aesthetically pleasing.
This was my first version of my contents page, I then received feedback on how to improve my contents page which I then applied to it in a later stage of creation.
This is my first attempt of my double page spread, I made it to be a question and answer interview rather than a block of writing about a certain topic due to the fact that this would be more appealing to my target audience. I received feedback on my double spread and applied the feedback to my next attempt at my double page spread.
Once I received feedback on my contents page, I applied the feedback to my contents and produced my contents page (see image above). In my feedback I was told to add more pages due to the fact that 33 pages of a magazine does not follow the conventions of a pop music magazine. So I added more pages and features to my contents page.
I took on the constructive criticism that I received regarding my second attempt of my contents page (see image above) so that I could improve it. In my feedback I was told that a white background is not something that you would typically see in a pop music magazine, so I changed my background to a baby pink colour so that it would stick to my house style and colour scheme. I did this so that I was going to be following the typical conventions of a pop music magazine.
I then decided to change the background of my double page spread so that it looked more 'fun' so that it is more likely to attract my target audience. I decided to use the gradient tool on photoshop so that I could change my background whilst including the colours from my colour scheme.
This version of my front cover (see image above) is the most recent. I changed my background because in my feedback that I received, it said that I should change it due to the fact that grey is a 'boring' colour and doesn't fit in with my genre and target audience. I also added more cover lines to fill my page as well as making some words on the page bigger so that they stand out more.
Once I received feedback regarding my contents page, I applied it to my current version of it (see image above). Like my double page spread, I was told that a plain white background doesn't follow the typical conventions of a pop music magazine so I changed it to a coloured pattern that follows my house style and colour scheme. I also changed the colour of some text so that it would stand out more and look aesthetically pleasing. As well as this, I swapped around 'Jukebox' and 'contents' because on a contents page, the word 'contents' should be the first thing that you see so that you know what will be featured and written on the page.
In my most recent version of my double page spread (see image above), I changed my background so that it looks more 'fun' as this is more likely to make my target audience interested. As well as this, I also made the blue lines around 'LIELLE' thicker so that it stands out more and you instantly know who the interview is with. I also added another page number so that my double page spread follows the conventions of a pop music magazine.
